Designed by Hsiang-Yi Pan and Shu-Fen Hsu, the Poem of Life is a unique residential space that stands out for its simplicity and lack of complexity. The designers have skillfully used ecological materials and wooden elements to demarcate each area within the house, creating a harmonious balance between form and function.
The design is characterized by its use of warm wooden materials, rich grains of stones, and elegant colors of milk tea. The public area, which includes the entryway, dining room, kitchen island, and kitchen area, is designed with wooden cabinets to enhance functionality and space effect. The living room area, on the other hand, is adorned with linear elements, with double-wood blocks extending towards the television wall.
In the private area, the designers have used stone floorings to create a neat and simple visual sense. The residence, which comprises four bedrooms and two living rooms, is designed to provide a smooth traffic flow from the entryway to the living room. The designers have also used materials in the same tonal in each corner of the house to add character to all areas.
The Poem of Life was realized using stone materials, natural wood veneers, imported wallpapers, special paints, and wooden cabinets. The designers have also used linear lightings and yellow furniture to create vividness. The ceiling is designed with a gradient sense to shape a delicate and consistent spatial aesthetic.
The design project, which was completed in May 2010 in New Taipei City, Taiwan, was a result of careful research and planning. The designers had to overcome the challenge of creating a clear traffic flow while fulfilling functional needs and comprehensiveness in a space that was a merger of two small residences. They achieved this by using colors to create connections between different areas and redefining the limited space to increase its space effect and functionality.
The Poem of Life is not just a residential space design; it is a testament to the designers' ability to create a relaxing and modern space that allows its users to feel and touch the grains of wood and stone, along with the rich emotions of nature. This design was awarded Iron in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2022, a testament to its well-designed, practical, and innovative creation that meets professional and industrial requirements.
